What the numbers mean

UBC's admit rate is the number of applicants offered admission to their preferred (first-choice) program divided by the number of completed applications, across all year levels, so it includes transfer applicants as well as students coming straight from high school. Applicants refused for missing a prerequisite count in the denominator. Students may list a second-choice program, and offers to that alternative are not counted as admits in this rate.

The Vancouver rate rose from 48% in 2021/22 to 61% in 2024/25 and 60% in 2025/26. Part of that rise is a change in what is counted: from 2024/25 UBC's new admissions system includes post-baccalaureate programs and some diplomas and certificates in the Vancouver figures, so recent years are not strictly comparable with earlier ones. The international admit rate at Vancouver (71% in 2025/26) is now higher than the domestic rate (55%), after international applications fell.

Domestic and international applicants are assessed in separate pools: UBC notes that international students do not compete for government-funded domestic seats. The campus-wide rate also hides large differences between programs; UBC does not publish admit rates by faculty in this report. Acceptance rates quoted elsewhere that differ from these are not UBC's published figures.

Graduate admission is more selective: 31% of completed applications to master's and doctoral programs at UBC Vancouver received an offer in 2025/26, and 25% for international applicants. All applicants whose education was not in English must meet UBC's English Language Admission Standard; the minimums are below.
