Task Overview

Reading Passage

Cafe to be Built in Library The university has decided to build a cafe in the basement of the library. The reason given for this new development is that university officials believe students will enjoy the convenience of being able to eat without having to leave the library. Students have often complained that their studies are disrupted because they must leave the library whenever they want to eat. Officials also believe that it will help make library study more productive if students have the opportunity to take short breaks in the cafe while they're working. Sincerely, Justin Ruben

Original Answer: Well, the school decides to build a new cafe in the library. This is because firstly, this will make students enjoy convenience so that they don't need to eat outside the library. Beside, this will make students more productive. But the woman doesn't like the idea. First of all, students cannot always walk in the cafe, because there are all unhealthy food such as sandwich. So actually, students still need to leave the library to eat in cafeteria. Besides, imagine there is a friend who is in the cafe, and students may tend to hang out with the friend together, so that students actually cannot concentrate in the study.

Corrected Answer: Well, the school decides has decided(决定的过去时态) to build a new cafe in the library. This is because firstly, first,(更自然的表达) this will make students enjoy convenience so that they don't need to eat outside the library. Beside, Additionally,(更自然的过渡词) this will make students more productive. But the woman doesn't like the idea. First of all, students cannot always walk in the cafe, because there are all unhealthy food, items(更准确的词汇) such as sandwich sandwiches(名词复数形式). So actually, students still need to leave the library to eat in cafeteria the cafeteria(加定冠词). Besides, imagine there is a friend who is in the cafe, and students may tend to hang out with the friend together, so that students actually cannot concentrate in on(介词用法) the study.

Revised Answer (140 words): The school has decided to build a new cafe in the library for two main reasons: first, it will provide students with convenience as they won't need to leave the library to eat; second, it will potentially make students more productive. However, the woman disagrees with this plan. She believes that students will still need to leave the library to eat in the cafeteria because the cafe will only offer unhealthy food items such as sandwiches. Furthermore, she thinks that having friends in the cafe might distract students from their studies, as they may be tempted to socialize instead of focusing on their work. Thus, she argues that the new cafe might not achieve its intended goals and could even have negative consequences for students' productivity and concentration.

Original Answer: The university is going to build a cafe in the library because it offers convenience of being able to eat without having to leave the library, and it makes library study more productive. The woman in the conversation disagreed with this proposal. Firstly, she thinks that he she (使用错误的代词,应该是“she”而不是“he”) will not go to the cafe because it just offers some unhealthy food, such as snacks, sandwiches, or soda. Secondly, she believes that he she (同上,应该是“she”) will not be the only one that goes down to the cafe and chats with their friends, so they will not concentrate on the work or study.

Revised Answer (140 words): The university plans to construct a cafe within the library premises to provide students with the convenience of eating without leaving the library and enhance their productivity during study sessions. However, the woman in the conversation opposes this proposal for two main reasons. First, she believes that the cafe will only offer unhealthy food options such as snacks, sandwiches, and sodas, which may deter her from visiting it. Second, she is concerned that students may be tempted to socialize with their friends at the cafe instead of focusing on their studies or work. She argues that this could potentially lead to a decrease in overall productivity and concentration levels among students who frequent the library for academic purposes.

The reading passage states (将“books”删除,用更准确的表述来引入阅读部分的内容) that the university should build a cafe in the basement of librarythe library(加上定冠词“the”), because it will be very convenient for the students to eat without leaving the library. The library study will be more productive if students take short breaks in the cafe while working. However, the woman in the conversation totally disagrees with it by mentioning two reasons. First, the students won't walk to the cafeteria even when the weather is not good. They will just go to the basement and eat something. However, the library only serves junk food, so it will be very unhealthy for them to eat junk food. And secondly, the students will only chat in the basement, and everybody will be tempted to join them and chat together, so people will be distracted and it is a bad effect.

Revised Answer (140 words):

The reading passage states that the university plans to build a cafe in the basement of the library for students' convenience and increased productivity during study sessions. However, the woman in the conversation disagrees with this plan for two main reasons. Firstly, she believes that students would prefer going to the basement cafe instead of walking to the cafeteria, especially during bad weather. This would result in them consuming unhealthy junk food offered at the library cafe rather than healthier options available at the cafeteria. Secondly, she argues that having a cafe within the library would encourage students to socialize and chat in the basement, leading to distractions and reduced focus on their studies. Therefore, the woman thinks that the university's plan might have unintended negative consequences for students' health and academic performance.
